Holy Smokes get ready for a lot of pictures and a good story to go with them!!!!
On Saturday Mike told me that he had to go up to Marysville to help a friend of his work on his car and that I needed to go with him because his friends wife wanted me to look at the jewelry that she makes. As you can imagine, I was more than happy to spend my entire sunshine filled Saturday looking at jewelry with someone who I did not know. :) As it turns out it was all one big fat lie!!!!! Mike's friend owns his own airplane and Mike had set up an entire day and night worth of fun for me for my birthday. When we arrived he told me that we were really there to take a ride in the plane to the San Juan Islands to have lunch. I was more than happy with just doing that but I was in for so much more.
This is us getting ready to load up for our ride. Keep in mind that his friend just pulls the plane out of his garage and has an air strip in his back yard!!!!! We got up in the air and Greg decided that Mike should fly us there. I was a bit nervous about that idea but Mike loved it.
The girls in the back seat enjoying the ride. What a beautiful view from up there.
Once we landed and got out of the plane I noticed that Mike was carrying a duffle bag so I asked him why and he informed me that the rest of my present was that we were spending the night. I was slightly concerned about this since I hadn't packed anything but he informed me that he had it under control.
Our next stop was down to Susie's Moped where he had reserved a funny coupe scoot for the whole day so that we could tour the island and not have to hurry.
Our first stop on our tour was Roche Harbor. What a cute place.
We ate lunch outside in the sunshine staring at a bunch of beautiful boats.
I decided that this was us. I really want to be the ladies sitting up on the dock by their huge sleeper boat but I know I am the poor couple in the motor boat out for a day ride. :)
We drove past a whole field of these funny guys. They just sat and stared at us. We also stopped at a lavender farm, saw a funny camel and found a bunch of lama's. There is a very strange combination of stuff on this Island.
I got to drive for a little bit but I was much happier being the passenger. You can't look around as much when you are driving.
We stopped at one look out and we were to lazy to take off our helmets so of course it was the stop where a nice man offered to take our picture.
I love lighthouses so we stopped and walked up to this beauty. It was a little breezy.
After riding around for close to six hours we had to return the scooter but we had to fill it up. Even at $4.85 a gallon it only cost us $3.80 to fill it up. I think I need one of these for going to the grocery store. It gets really good gas mileage.
We walked down to the pier to watch the boats some more and go eat dinner. It is so fun to eat outside and have something fun to stare at.
We walked up to check out some of the stores after dinner and walked into the general store on the main road and walked out five minutes later to a completely flooded street. A water main had broke while we were in the store and the entire street was flooding and the road was starting to buckle. I think it was the most excitement this small town had seen in a while. They had all of there emergency people there in record time trying to decide what to do.
The hotel we stayed at was really cute. I guess Mike didn't realize it was a holiday weekend when he started planning this whole thing so he was worried about the room but it was really nice and it even had a fireplace. It was so tiny and funny.
This would be the outfit that Mike packed for me for the morning. It isn't necessarily something that I would have put together but I was more than happy with it. He did laugh when I got dressed that he didn't realize the t-shirt was long sleeved. Oh well. I am always cold anyway!!
We went down and got some coffee and sat and watched the ferries come in, checked out a few more shops that we had missed and then met Greg and Alexis for lunch before they flew us back home.
After lunch Greg wanted ice cream and he knew exactly where to go so we all ended up getting some. It was really good.
Our plane is waiting for us. It is so fun to have a personal pilot and a private jet waiting for you.
I had the best weekend and I am not sure how Mike pulled it off without me having a clue but he did an awesome job. It was the perfect birthday present!!!!!!!!!
